Yes, Orange Park had a great band, they were "THE DAYBREAKERS".

Read Newspaper Article about OPHS.net
it's been over 10 years since the start of the OPHS.net.  The OPHS.net was always a not-for-profit idea, I am glad it continues that way. I am also glad that there is now "Facebook" and it has made it easier to connect with friends. Which is what the OPHS.NET is all about. Some things in life are just worth it to put everything you have into it.
Reminiscences with Phil Snyder Class of 1962
We were the first 10th, 11th and 12th grade classes at OPHS.  Our class selected the nickname "Raiders", the school song, school colors, etc..  We named the school paper the "Bacon".  Also had the first Senior Skip Day.

In those days we used River Road and the Air Base Drive-In for most of our out of school activities,  but the beach was always the most popular.  In the summer we had dances at the old library.  I would  bring a hi-fi and everyone would bring some 45 or 33 rpm records to dance to.

When we could we would go into the Riverside Women's Club to listen and dance to the "Lemon Twisters".

Just east of the Orange Park Mall used to be an abandoned race track.  We would take our old cars (mine was a 49 Chevy) to race.

Times were good.  Our senior year was the first football team.  We played all B teams except for Clay  High. We played their first team.  Held our own till the second half then they beat us pretty bad.

The morning of the game, Jimmy Nelson, Robert Kendrick and myself went to Green Cove very early.  Raised an OPHS Raider flag and greased the flag pole. That flag was up there for ten days.

(Thanks Phil, great memories. If anyone would like to share the story of their school year, please send it.)
Karen McMichael "Class of 1979" asked these interesting questions...do you remember these places?
The Red Barn
The TG&Y
The Kingsley Theater where you could watch the "Rocky Horror Picture Show".
George's Ice Cream Shop with the free Birthday sundae on your birthday with your picture on the wall.
The A&P
The funny shaped building the Library was in.
The sandwich shop that had a "Raider sub" next to the Publix.
Susan "McCulley Sloat "Class of 1976"
My family moved to OP when I was in the 5th grade, so my memories go way, way back! Both of my brothers are also OPHS Graduates - Mike McCulley '71 and Pat McCulley '73 - so between the three of us we terrorized the county and OPHS faculty for years.  It looks so different now, but I still recall...

The Char-Burger
The House of Loo (I see Terri Loo regstered in '76, Hi Terri)
Highway 17 BEFORE there was a Buckman Bridge
Cattle still grazing on both sides of Blanding Blvd. (can you imagine that now?)
Going to the Air Base drive-in theatre
Riding my horse all the way down Drs. Lake Drive and then in the Mardi Gras parade (and I thought he looked so sharp because I "glittered" his hooves")
Driving up and down River Road while drinking Boones Farm Strawberry Hill wine with a bunch of girls
Playing "Chinese fire drill" on Highway 17 at the red lights
Staying at the beach from dawn to dark and frying myself with baby oil and putting Sun-In on my hair each summer
Skiing at Kingsley Lake
Listening to Jethro Tull's Aqualung, 3 Dog Night & Jimi Hendrix with my now sister-in-law Joy "Glass" McCulley until my parents wanted to kill us
When Middleburg seemed far away...
And much, much more.

My husband and I live in St. Augustine and my folks in the Lake Ashbury area, so I don't actually see old OP much anymore.  Each time I do pass through, I'm astounded at the traffic and growth...
